Should offices enforce gender diversity?
YES It will help boost employees’ morale at the workplace We all deserve a work environment which is free of discrimination, victimisation and harassment. However, this is not the reality. The objective of all corporates should be to ensure that every employee has access to the same opportunities and fair treatment. Men and women come up with solutions and perceive a situation or problems from different viewpoints. The insights, ideas, industry knowledge, and multiple channels of information from both men and women can be of great benefit to the organisation and should be used to boost performance and morale of employees at the place of work. Snigdha Kumar, Mangalore YES Workforce diversity will lead to organisational growth Gender diversity was an alien word some time back as all achievements in the workplace were attributed to teamwork but by men. However, the scenario is changing as organisations are waking up to the need of realising the benefits of a diverse workforce. If workforce plurality and equality is promoted, organisations will flourish and attain accomplishments from people of all qualifications and backgrounds. Gender diversity will reform socio-economic status of the society when we see all men, women, transgenders, and LGBTs contributing to the success stories, equally. Joel Cutinho, Bengaluru YES It will give equal rights to both men and women The Indian society and its mentality is regressive and patriarchal. Enforcing gender diversity at work is essential as it can deal with the issue of equal rights with some seriousness and bring about a change for good. Arkapratim Ghosh, Bengaluru YES It will ensure unbiased evaluation Gender diversity should be enforced and companies should look into reassessing job requirements while expanding the applicant pool. Employers need to squash harassment and coach all employees towards gender diversity. Organisations should get serious about addressing work-life balance and evaluations should be fair. Performance assessments should measure substance, not style, results and methods. Sonali Sahani, Mumbai
