STAY SHARP, BE SMART

Trust your instinct and stick to these six tips while preparing for JEE

-

It is common for students to go blank during the exam. It may not be because they haven’t prepared well enough; it’s usually because of stress. The human brain is programmed to release cortisol, raising the heart rate, modulating adrenaline levels, and, ultimately, clouding a person’s judgement. So how should students deal with stress and stay sharp while preparing for JEE (Joint Entrance Examination)? Here are a few foolproof strategies.

BREAK YOUR TASK DOWN

It keeps you from feeling overwhelmed by the bigger picture and you can see results in comparison to your effort.

TAKE MICRO BREAKS

After every two hours of studying, make sure to take a quick, small break. This will help in strengthening your focus as well as your hold over a particular topic.

INDULGE IN YOUR FAVOURITE PASTIME

You could play your favourite field game or take a long walk to clear your head. It’s important to do so because it’ll give you more room to breathe and you will come back to your study desk feeling refreshed.

WORK IT OUT

Exercises involving breathing patterns or shoulder movements offer quick relaxation. Make sure to do these regularly. Every time you feel stressed, try meditating for at least 10 minutes. This could turn into a regular regimen that’ll enhance your productivity.

MAKE MNEMONICS FOR IMPORTANT CONCEPTS YOU OFTEN FORGET

Just before the paper, calm yourself down with a quick revision. It helps when you think you’re going to forget something. Also make sure to get at least eight hours of sleep and always stay hydrated. Don’t forget to carry a water bottle into the exam hall too.

MAKE SHORT NOTES OF EVERYTHING YOU STUDIED IN A DAY

A week before the exam is the best time to use these notes to your advantage. It’ll help you quickly browse through all that you’ve studied, without having to refer to the main chapters. Your own notes are much easier to memorise and retain for longer. It is a proven strategy for success.
