PROMISE & DELIVERY STATUS OF COMMITMENT­S MADE IN THE 2014 BJP MANIFESTO

FULFILLED

Promise: Promote all sports—traditiona­l and modern

Status: Khelo India programme launched in 2016 by merging the existing Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan, the Urban Sports Infrastruc­ture Scheme and the National Sports Talent Search Programme. An amount of Rs 1,756 crore for three years was allocated to Khelo India. Besides, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) is implementi­ng eight sports promotiona­l schemes to train 14,505 sportspers­ons in 27 sports in 303 SAI centres. Target Olympic Podium (TOP) scheme also launched, to prepare India for the next three Olympics. Under the programme, started in September 2017, selected sportspers­ons will be given Rs 50,000 a month for training, diet and other expenses till 2020

FAILURE

Promise: Providing sportspers­ons security of career through jobs in government, PSUs and private sector

Status: No significan­t step taken

n High-powered committee to address grievances of women sportspers­ons

Implement suggestion in 2017 Olympic Task Force (OTF) report to prepare comprehens­ive Action Plan for effective preparatio­n of Indian sportspers­ons in the next three Olympics— 2020 Tokyo, 2024 & 2028
