Mapping Out
Skiils an aspiring architect must have
Aesthetic sensitivity
An ability to visualise, think in three dimensions and appreciate geometry, colour and texture. Sensitivity to culture, geography, locally available materials and human emotions is equally essential to help build desired spaces, structures and buildings.
Drawing and sketching skills
Skills in drawing would include making freehand sketches to technical drawings. With sketching views in three dimensions for visualisation of spaces and forms, drawings are necessary for legal documents and design.
Computer skills
There are softwares such as 3D Max and Graphics for which computer skills are required. These save a lot of time and are easy to transmit as soft copies.
Communication skills
Expression—both oral and written—are in addition to graphic skills and are necessary to convince the client, deal with stakeholders, and to ensure that the design gets selected and implemented.
Interpersonal skills
To work in a team, an architect must deal with the client and other professionals and this requires good interpersonal and interactive abilities. The work culture has changed and one needs to learn how to work as a team effectively.
