Do women really need dating apps?
It is a safe opportunity
Women definitely need dating apps. It gives them a chance to be out there unabashedly without the fear of coming out too strong. It’s also safer because they are protected by the screen and making the move becomes relatively easier as one right swipe could result into a match leading to the possibility of a good hook up or even a solid relationship. If not, just dump and block, no harm done. Harshika Kapoor, Delhi
It can show women as desperate
Women making the first move are termed desperate and men then feel entitled to harass them. There are several instances where women do not make the first move even on dating apps because of the stigma attached. So, it depends on how much a woman is confident in her own skin to make the first move. What women need is confidence. Ansita Swain, Odisha
Let’s stick to old school
I don’t think women need dating apps to make the first move. If you really like a person why not approach in person? It is way more sincere than hitting someone up online. Meeting in person and chatting over coffee, you get to see their reactions and emotions rather than online. Anoushka Gogoi, Assam
It’s a woman’s choice
When a woman uses a dating app that lets her make the first move she takes the initiative of choosing the best possible match for her, someone she desires than waiting for the right offer to approach her. This not only puts her in a powerful position to choose but makes it easier to approach men which, otherwise, might not be feasible in reality. Nivedita Lakra, Chennai
It makes relationships trivial
I don’t think women, or in fact anyone, needs dating apps to make the first move because this whole era of dating via apps has changed the meaning of stable relationships. Relationships are more than just swiping right or left or sliding into DMs which it makes it easier to fall in or out of commitments and women can surely make the first move without a dating app. Taarinie Rai Kochhar, Delhi
