SUHANI PAREKH 27 Founder, Misho, Mumbai www.mishodesigns.com

- By Aditi Pai

The bold earrings and bracelets in simplified geometric shapes and clean lines look like small sculptures rather than intricate jewellery patterns and that is exactly what designer Suhani Parekh wants them to be. Trained as a sculptor at the Goldsmiths University in London, the Mumbaibased entrepreneur starts out with small sculptures and then strips them down. “When I started making jewellery pieces, they looked better on the body than they did on a plinth,” she says. Parekh started wearing them; people appreciated her creations and Misho was born two years ago.

Brand motto

Sculptures or “modern architecture for the body” is how Parekh defines her work. Clean lines, architectural forms and simplified geometric shapes make Misho’s designs stand out. “The aesthetic is an amalgamation of the Bauhaus ideology and Japanese minimalism. What interests me the most about these schools of thought apart from their theories and method to design and aesthetics is their approach to interdisciplinary nature of different creative fields,” she says. Made with sterling silver that is malleable and easy to work with, especially with the finishes, her jewellery can be found on the shelves of lifestyle stores such as Ogaan in Delhi, Clove in Mumbai and Selfridges in London.

Trend tip

If you’re new to wearing jewellery, start with smaller, more minimal pieces and work your way to experimental and statement pieces. I love pairing our contemporary pieces with a traditional outfit as it makes the entire outfit feel far more dynamic. The best way to keep your pieces fresh, especially those in sterling silver, is to wear them regularly and have them re-polished once in a while.
