Parth Parikh, 30

Design Clinic, Delhi @designclinicindia (Instagram) While pursuing a Masters in product design at Domus Academy, Milan in 2012, Parth Parikh saw how proud the Italians were of their design heritage, imbibing and celebrating the every little detail enthusiastically. “Coming from a country that’s equally rich in its design sensibility and visual aesthetics, I too felt a strong urge to show what we have got,” recalls Parikh. He founded Design Clinic in 2015. With materials as unique as his designs, his collection includes Nawab chairs inspired by low seating found in erstwhile king’s palaces; Dabbawalla coffee table inspired by the traditional tiffin delivery vendors of Mumbai; Anguthee stool that imitates gemstone-studded rings; and Galla stool inspired by the traditional cash drawers. However, his most popular design happens to be the Tokri Pouf from the Phoolmandi Collection made from handmade woollen threads, high density foam and plywood upholstered with polyester jute fabric. PRICE `4,000 to `50,000.

Vincent Roy

Wood’n Design, Auroville @Wood’n Design (Facebook)

Vincent Roy believes that design takes simplicity, aesthetics and functionality brought together by high degree of skill and quality of material. It’s what drives WoodnDesign’s philosophy, from concept to execution. Clear lines meet antique inspiration and a modern sensibility, much like the Scandinavian furniture of the 1920-1970 that brought Roy into the trade in the first place. A French designer and cabinet maker, Roy spent several years in France, Australia, Cambodia and India gaining experience in carpentry and repairing French antique furniture. He joined hands with Gagan Saxena, architect and designer who hails from Pune to start WoodnDesign. Their main skill is carpentry with a passion for modern and minimalist design. “An iconic design is a combination of simplicity, aesthetics and functionality brought to life through skilful work with the highest quality materials,” says Roy. The wood used is Burma teak reclaimed from antique beams aged at least 80 years and seasoned deftly. Metal and brass accents are also used in some of their furniture. The exhaustive catalogue includes chairs, coffee tables, functional cabinets, bedside tables and lamps.
