“KEEP GOING DESPITE RESISTANCE AND STRUGGLES”

- By Shelly Anand

Technology is something Naman Adlakha was always attracted to and that led him to study biotechnology at SRM University, Chennai. Keen to study more and to expand his knowledge base, he decided to go to the Newcastle University in UK for industrial and commercial biotechnology programme and got exposed to international culture and market, projects, and experiments, and even went to the Durham University, also in UK, during which he interned as fermentation technology expert with a beverage brand. With sufficient know-how of biotechnology and bio sciences, he was very keen to get into making chemical-free products to give back to the nature. Skincare was one segment he thought of starting with. Omorfee, which means beautiful in Greek, was launched in 2016 with only four body butters, and today, the organic skincare brand has about 120 retail products.

“I am more of a brand person and business is in my blood,” says Adlakha, who feels that the projects and small business enterprises done by him during college days gave him the important lessons and confidence to work full-time on Omorfee. Adlakha, who also went to the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) in Delhi to study business management in detail, believes that for any business to do good, you need to offer fully researched and quality products to the consumers. “Product is our strength and it was the time spent at the universities that taught me how to work towards that,” he says.

Points to Remember

It’s not only products that should speak quality, but also people and teams working with you, and Adlakha is very clear that a good work environment with no politics is equally important for any business to do good. So, he advises those planning to study management and start their own venture that there will always be a tough phase but be persistent.
