THE RIGHT VIBES

It’s time to transform your interiors into a joyful and hopeful space. Don’t know where to start? Our expert has you covered.

- By SARAH SHAM

The world needs more restful spaces, and quarantine has shown us that. This may be the first time that the whole world has stopped in its tracks like this, but its taught us all how important it can be to make sure your home is really the most comfortable space for you and has to be calming in every way.

COLOUR CUES

While I do think some lighter colours are always easy on the eye, it’s nice to switch it up with some fun wallpapers and patterns so that you aren’t living in a boring white and beige space and you do have some kind of visual excitement going on. I think we undervalue the impact that a happy yellow wall can make or a beautiful patterned tile can have in uplifting a mood, so I would stay away from boring interiors and make sure homes are exciting,

bright and colourful.

LAYOUT IS IMPORTANT

One common mistake people make is placing furniture that is not sized correctly for the space. I’ve been to so many homes where there is a small living room with this massive armchair, or then conversely a large sprawling space with a small tiny sofa in it. It’s really important to understand scale in a space and this will help the room feel bigger and more functional. I also think overcrowding a space is a problem, and in a setting like quarantine where we have used our homes to do everything from our morning yoga classes to evening family calls, there needs to be enough empty and open space left in the home for everyone to feel comfortable and accommodated.

DO IT YOURSELF

There’s a lot that can be done at home. DIY gardening using kitchen waste and cut up vegetables, you can actually grow a kitchen garden right in your home. There is plenty of information online, available on this topic. You can also upcycle hardly used furniture and make it into something more functional. apart from this, you can also do a lot of DIY art with your family which is a great bonding experience for all.

TIME FOR A NEW LOOK

Post lockdown it’s time to really have some fun with your homes. Splurge on new wall paint, wallpapers, fun and colourful rugs and some nice throw cushions and accessories to spruce up your space and make it feel fresh, after all you must have looked at your home looking the same for all these weeks and your home deserves some upgrading as well.
