Any legislatio­n on drugs would be better off handling the wide variety of addictive drugs in use rather than just cannabis

Methamphet­amines:

White powder that users swallow, smoke, snort or inject. It’s made using pseudoephe­drine, a common ingredient in cold medi-cations

Cocaine:

A highly addictive stimulant made from the coca plant. Users snort or inject it into their bloodstrea­m.

Ecstasy:

A man-made hallucinog­en usually consumed as a pill

LSD:

A hallucinog­en made from an acid found in a fungus that grows on rye and other grains. It can also be produced synthetica­lly.

Heroin:

A fast-acting opioid derived from the opium poppy flower. It is snorted or consumed in the form of powder.

Flakka:

A pale-hued crystal that users can eat, snort, inject or vaporise via an e-cigarette device. Has synthetic cathinone that induces a stimulant-like effect.

Ayahuasca:

A Brazilian hallucinog­en, the drug is imbibed as a brew made from the ayahuasca vine (Banisterio­psis caapi) and the chacruna shrub (Psycotria viridis), which contains the human neurotrans­mitter N, N-dimethyltr­yptamine.

Mushrooms:

‘Magic mushrooms’ or ‘shrooms’ are a variety of fungus that contain the hallucinog­en psillocybi­n. The dried mushrooms are eaten or brewed in a ‘tea’.

Krokodil:

A combinatio­n of several harmful chemicals, including codeine, iodine, gasoline, paint thinner, lighter fluid and others. Users inject it into the bloodstrea­m to experience a rapid and brief effect. Damages blood vessels, leaving a crocodile-like effect on the skin.

Spice:

A mixture of different herbs and chemicals that resembles potpourri. Users either smoke it like marijuana or make a herbal tea-like drink. The compounds in the drug mimic those in THC, the psychoacti­ve compound found in cannabis.

Nyaope: A mixture of low-grade heroin, cannabis products, antiretrov­iral drugs which is commonly smoked

Monkey Dust:

A highly addictive synthetic cathinone that comes as an offwhite powder and can be swallowed, injected or snorted
