WINNER: Indo-Global Social Service Society, New Delhi

WHY THEY WON: Provided Covid relief and recovery support to an estimated 1.6 million people, particularly the rural poor, in 98 districts across 21 states

THE INDO-GLOBAL SOCIAL Service Society (IGSSS) is a nonprofit that focuses on sustainable livelihoods, reducing urban poverty, empowering the youth as change-makers and gender equity. Established in 1960, IGSSS has a presence in 25 states and one Union territory.

Through the pandemic, IGSSS has not only helped distribute ration and essential equipment to the needy but also provided vital support in rural areas for strengthening infrastructure, livelihood recovery and spreading awareness on health, government support and Covid vaccination.

Overall, IGSSS reached out to over 1.6 million individuals with relief and recovery support across 98 districts in 21 states. The organisation has so far distributed about 1.8 million masks, 300,000 sanitisers, 60,000 safety kits, 100,000 ration kits and essential medicines worth Rs 66.5 lakh. They also supported the setting up of two Covid isolation centres and a vaccination centre, apart from providing assistance at 500 Covid vaccination camps across states. Medical equipment was dispatched to several primary health centres as per their need. This helped the rural poor access Covid healthcare closer to home.

IGSSS realised the critical need for the public to be made aware of Covid prevention protocols, symptoms and vaccines in order to contain the pandemic. The various public awareness camps held by the organisation have helped over 500,000 people in slums and villages stay safe.
