KARACHI: Pakistan's flamboyant all-rounder Shahid Afridi is not pleased with the International Cricket Council (ICC) rule that bars umpires from taking caps from players during a match due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The former Pakistan captain, who is playing for Multan Sultans in the ongoing Pakistan Super League here, was not happy on Tuesday night when, during their match against Peshawar

Zalmi, the umpires refused to take his cap when he came on to bowl.

"Dear ICC wondering why the umpires are not allowed to hold the bowler's cap even though they are in the same bubble as the players and management and even shake hands at the end of the game?" he tweeted on Wednesday.

Some other players in the PSL have also expressed surprise over the ICC rule which is being enforced because of the pandemic.

LOS ANGELES: The sheared-off front of the wrecked SUV told part of the story, and the officers on the scene filled in the rest. Tiger Woods was lucky to be alive, they said, thanks to modern safety technology and a big dose of good luck. Alive and well, no. But alive nonetheless.

The good news — no, make that the best news — is that Woods seems on track to survive after being pried on Tuesday from the SUV he wrecked in Los Angeles.

That's despite injuries that are so severe — including multiple open fractures of his leg — that he will be convalescing a long, long time.

The other piece of good news was that there was no immediate sign that Woods was impaired at the time of the crash — a significant bit of information, of course, because of his past.

The bad news is that the career of the world's

BARAMULLA: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Mohammad Aijaz Asad accompanied by various concerned officers today paid visit to the famous tourist destination Gulmarg, to take stock of arrangements put in place for smooth conduct of winter games under Khelo-India sports initiative.

The event shall commence from 26th of February during which an array of sports activities in different categories shall be organized.

On the occasion, DC conducted onspot inspection of several locations where he took the first hand appraisal of various necessities required for conducting the event smoothly.

He also reviewed several other related aspects wherein he deliberated upon various officers for adopting a coordinated approach for making the event a grand success. He emphasized making all necessary arrangements including accommodation, lodging and other facilities well in advance and in a hassle free manner.

The DC directed the PDD and PHE departments to provide uninterrupted power and water supply respectively greatest golfer — at least on the game's biggest stages — is probably over. Coming back from his recent back surgery to play again at the age of 45 was always going to be a problem.

Woods himself said previously that Father Time remains undefeated and that his return to top level play wasn't guaranteed.

Combine that with the gruesome injuries from his crash, and now it borders on impossible.

This isn't Ben Hogan, coming back from a near fatal car accident in 1949 to win the US Open next year.

Hogan was nine years younger, hadn't been through multiple back and knee surgeries, and didn't have to try to swing his driver hard enough to hit it 350 yards to keep up with the other players.

Woods was fragile enough to begin with and there were already questions about whether he could return to play at a high level.

He might share Hogan's determination to overcome everything in front of him, but in the end so that the concerned stakeholders may not face any inconvenience. He also directed the Mechanical Division to keep men and machinery ready so as to avert any kind of exigency that may arise due to snowfall. Moreover, Municipal authorities were directed to maintain hygiene in the surrounding.

It was informed that sufficient accommodation for the dignitaries as well for the athletes had been facilitated in different hotels and in other resting places.

Among others, Secretary Sports Council Nuzhat Gul, SSP Baramulla Abdul Qayoom, SDM Gulmarg, CEO GDA besides other concerned functionaries were present on the occasion.

AHMEDABAD: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said Ahmedabad in Gujarat would be known as the country's sports city with world-class facilities for all kinds of games being set up.

Shah made the statement after President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the world's largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, which will now be known as Narendra Modi stadium - renamed after the country's Prime Minister.

The president also performed the groundbreaking ceremony of a sports complex in the stadium, to be named Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave, for disciplines like football, hockey, basketball, kabbadi, boxing, and lawn tennis among others. Shah said, "Such sports facilities are not available in a single city in India at present. Ahmedabad, which Modiji transformed into India's heritage city, is now ready to become the country's sports city...Ahmedabad will be considered as India's sports city." there's only so much he can do to mend his broken body.

That means Woods will never break the record of 18 major championship wins held by Jack Nicklaus. It means his fans will never be able to will him on to another win like they did at the 2019 Masters.

And it means golf will be a lot quieter for a long time to come.

The wreck on a downhill stretch of road in Tony Rancho Palos Verdes was stunning, though it shouldn't have come as a shock.

It marked the third time in a dozen years that Woods has been taken from vehicles in various stages of distress, a disturbing pattern that began with his infamous Thanksgiving weekend 2009 encounter with his now ex-wife outside his Florida mansion.

Four years ago he was found passed out in his car on a Florida highway with the engine running and charged with a DUI that was later plea bargained down. And now the questions are just be

The Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave and a sports complex coming up in the city' Naranpura area will offer entire facility to international players to play in a single city.

Shah said the sports enclave will be available to play all the games played in Olympics, and it will have stadiums for football, hockey and an indoor stadium.

He said all this became possible due to PM Modi's vision and farsightedness as the Gujarat chief minister.

On the occasion, Kovind said that the sports enclave will give a new identity to

Ahmedabad globally.

"I am sure that in the coming time, the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave will give a new identity to Ahmedabad in the world," the president added. ginning about how he managed to crash a brand-new Genesis SUV on a clear morning on the California coast — a wreck that sheriff deputies say he was lucky to escape alive.

Suddenly, the 2019 Masters seems like it was an awful long time ago.

Woods has done things over the years we couldn't imagine on the golf course.

I've been along for many of them, covering Woods from his first PGA Tour win in Las Vegas in 1996 as well as the Masters comeback win two years ago that was one of the great sports stories of our times.
