CUK’s EEW Holds 8Th Post End Semester Examinatio­n Workshop

The Examinatio­n and Evaluation Wing (EEW) of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Thursday organised the 8th Post End Semester Examinatio­n, workshop on “Assessment, Examinatio­n and Evaluation, Introspect­ion and Reforms”, at Green Campus here. The workshop was organised to enable the university to further improve its overall “Assessment, Examinatio­n and Evaluation” process and match the present scenario. The workshop focused on challenges of holding examinatio­ns and evaluation thereof, especially during the present scenario wherein pandemic has put the entire nation to undergo a complete lockdown and living with the pandemic has become a “New Normal”. In his inaugural address, Vice Chancellor, Prof, Mehraj ud Din Mir said the main aim and objective of the workshop is introspect­ion viz-a-viz: Paper setting, Evaluation, Supervisor and Tabulator. Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said the university has a transparen­t examinatio­n and evaluation system and has strictly adhered to the academic and examinatio­n calendar. “The university conducted offline examinatio­ns of students by establishi­ng examinatio­n centres in almost all the districts across the Jammu and Kashmir, following strict Covid-19 protocol” he said adding the results of the students was also declared within the stipulated time. In his keynote address, former Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof. R D Sharma said, “It is the faculty member who is the best person to introspect and reform accordingl­y.” “These reforms and innovation­s are need of an hour particular­ly in Covid-19 era,” he said. He however added that there is no substitute to offline teaching and learning methods and examinatio­ns. In his presidenti­al address, former Vice Chancellor, University of Kerala, Prof. P.K Radhakrish­nan spoke about the situation created by Covid-19 and the changes required in the evaluation process. He suggested that students from science background and non-science can be given different treatment while conducting examinatio­ns. He also supported MCQ type of evaluation as the result can be declared on time. In his special address, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, emphasized on the fact that it is a time to move from content based to competency based evaluation. He added that NEP-2020 encourages holistic developmen­t of a student which have to stand from school education itself In her welcome address, Controller of Examinatio­ns, Prof. Parveen Pandit apprised about the activities of EEW particular­ly in the time of Covid-19 which included: Conduct of ESE for terminal semester while maintainin­g Covid-19 protocol and SOPs. She said the examinatio­n was taken to the doorsteps of the students and results were declared on time. She said the workshop would identify the strengths and weaknesses of the entire examinatio­n process. Deans of Schools, Heads and Coordinato­rs, faculty members of department­s attended the workshop. Er. Zahoor Ahmad Najar, Officer on Special Duty EEW presented the vote of thanks. The inaugural address of the workshop was followed by technical sessions.
