Healthy Minds Commemorat­es World Drug Day

Srinagar- On the occasion of World Drug Day, Healthy Minds in collaborat­ion with civil society commemorat­ed World Drug Day at Iqbal Khomeini Hall, Alamgari Bazar in Old city.

Speakers on the occasion highlighte­d the social, medical and ethical implicatio­ns of drug abuse. Various remedies to address the drug abuse were also discussed.

Speakers emphasized it is important for the families of the drug abuse victims to offer them support. According to media reports, there are around 6 Lakh people in Kashmir valley who are drug addicts which includes females as well.

Speakers also threw light on how the government is taking various measures to contain the issue of drug menace. Measures include establishi­ng new facilities of treatment at district level and enhancing the capacity of existing facilities in Srinagar.

Among the speakers was eminent Islamic scholar Allama Dr Syed Mudasir Rizvi, Dr Nazir Mushtaq, Mohammad Muzaffar Khan Dir YDRC and Ms Josiya Khan, team leader Healthy Minds.

The event was moderated by Syed Areej Safvi.

The event was attended by eminent members of civil society, youth, teachers and students.

Awareness was also made about different kinds of mental health issues and how the Healthy Minds team is trying to address the problem at individual and social level.

Speaking on the occasion Project Manager KASHMER Dr Syed Riyaz Ahmed briefed the audience about different programs conducted in collaborat­ion with HELP Foundation and Help Poor Voluntary Trust in Kashmir Valley. The Healthy Minds programme is implemente­d on ground by HELP Foundation, supported and funded by KASHMER.
