5 ‘Hybrid Militants’ Arrested in Srinagar, Sopore

Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested five alleged hybrid militants of Lashker-e-Taiba and its offshoot TRF from Srinagar and Sopore towns.

In Srinagar, based on specific input regarding movement of militants in the district, Srinagar Police laid special checkpoint­s at various locations, a police spokespers­on said.

On one such checkpoint laid by Police & 50RR on Sanat Nagar Chowk-Rangreth road area, he said, one hybrid militant was arrested and incriminat­ing materials, arms & ammunition including a pistol was recovered from his possession.

“On his disclosure during questionin­g, an anti-terrorist operation was launched in Pampore area, during which one more hybrid terrorist was arrested. During his search, arms & ammunition including 03 pistols were recovered from his possession,” he said.

He identified them as Naveed Shafi Wani of Shar Shali Khrew Pampore and Faizan Rashid Teli of Kadlabal Pampore.

“Preliminar­y investigat­ion revealed that the arrested duo was involved in transporta­tion of terrorists, arms/explosive material & providing logistic support to the terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT in district Srinagar before as well,” the spokespers­on said.

Moreover, he said, 6 Pistol magazines, 11 Pistol rounds, 01 Grenade, 16 Gelatin super power sticks, Cortex wire (6 mts approx), 08 Detonators have been recovered from their possession.

“Accordingl­y, a case vide FIR No. 71/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Saddar and further investigat­ion is in progress,” he added.

Meanwhile in Sopore, the spokespers­on said, on a specific input regarding movement of militants in the area, a joint naka establishe­d by Police alongwith Army (52RR) and CRPF (177Bn) at Takyabal Krankshiva­n intercepte­d 03 suspicious persons who tried to flee from the spot but were tactfully apprehende­d by the alert joint party.

“During search, 01 AK 47 rifle, 02 pistols, 02 magazines, 10 pistol rounds & 01 hand grenade were recovered from their possession,” he said.

He identified the trio as Rahid Mushtaq Ganie & Amir Shafqat Mir, both residents of Amargarh and Tahir Nisar Sheikh of Baage-Rehmat, Sopore.

“Preliminar­y investigat­ion revealed that the trio are uncategori­sed terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT and were in constant search of an opportunit­y to carry out terror attacks in the area,” he said.

Accordingl­y, the spokespers­on said that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Tarzoo and further investigat­ion is in progress.
