Two NIT Students Felicitate­d For Bagging SDI Awards

Srinagar: Two students from National Institute of Technology Srinagar (NIT) Srinagar along with their team ‘TEJASVI’ bagged Solar Decathlon India awards’ at Solar Decathlon India Design Challenge 202122 held in New Delhi.

Sartaj Sagroo and Khubaan Kullah from Chemical Engineerin­g Department, their team ‘TEJASVI’ have won Solar Decathlon India Design Challenge 2021-22.

They were felicitate­d on Friday by the Union Minister of State (Independen­t Charge) Science & Technology; Minister of State (Independen­t Charge) Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh at Taj Mahal Hotel, New Delhi.

Dr. Singh, who was chief guest on the occasion, congratula­ted the participan­ts and winners of Solar Decathlon India for taking up real, live-building projects and developing innovative solutions.

He said SDI is helping to develop the next generation of architects, engineers, and entreprene­urs who can deliver net-zero-energy buildings.

Director NIT, Prof. (Dr.), Rakesh Sehgal extended his greetings to both students for bagging the prestigiou­s award. He said it is a proud movement for the entire Institutio­n.

Prof. Sehgal stated that this prestigiou­s award will provide them exposure to winners and would fulfill their profession­al aspiration­s.

“I am pleased to know that NIT student's contributi­ons are being recognized and acclaimed on many platforms,” he said.

Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari said that NIT Srinagar is committed to achieve credibilit­y at national and internatio­nal levels.

“There is no second option to hard work. I advise the students to serve the society with dedication and honesty,” he said.

Prof. Bukhari said NIT Srinagar has envisioned to take lead and make it a worldclass Institutio­n.

“Vanshah Sahaya” is a vision of a vibrant team of future energy-efficient building architects, scientists, and engineers from six different academic institutio­ns united by their resolve to implement sustainabl­e developmen­t goals for assisting economical­ly disadvanta­ged communitie­s in disasters.

In partnershi­p with SEEDS India, a community resilient shelter has been designed for Golaghat (Assam) in a seismic and flood-prone zone.

The future steps envisaged by Team Tejasvi include discussing the solution developed with SEEDS India; and sharing the findings with various government agencies like Assam Energy Developmen­t Agency and non-government­al agencies like United Nations High Commission­er for Refugees, Engineers without Borders.

Team Tejasvi is also grateful to SEEDS India and Solar Decathlon India for the opportunit­y to open up new vistas in learning particular­ly with constraint­s associated with materials innovation in lowcost materials like Bamboo, management of floodwater reuse in disaster situations, use of an appropriat­e roof (gable vs. thatched) in economical­ly constraine­d scenarios.

It consists of students from the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar, Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar, MBS School of Planning and Architectu­re, Sardar Patel College of Engineerin­g, and Banasthali Vidyapith and Islamic University of Science and Technology. Their realestate partner is SEEDS India.
