Amarnath Pilgrims Recount Horror At SKIMS

Survivors of the Amarnath cloudburst were taken to SKIMS on Saturday after being lifted from the flash flood site. They were admitted to the Disaster ward at Kashmir valley’s lone tertiary care Hospital.

Bhimji Lalji, a pilgrim from Ahmedabad, Gujarat narrated his ordeal with moist eyes.

Never in his life did Lalji anticipate nature’s fury would hit the cave shrine.

As thousands of pilgrims thronged the cave shrine, trouble started when it rained heavily and everyone started to run.

“Pilgrims started to run for shelter, I took shelter under a tent. In the midst of chaos, I was hit by something on my head and my tongue was also hurt” Bhimji said.

He was later taken to Amarnath Base camp for treatment.

Now undergoing treatment at SKIMS, Bhimji complained about not having food from yesterday.

“I haven’t had anything for food since yesterday, it is a terrible experience”.

Heena Gupta, another devotee from Jammu was injured running after cloudburst hit Amarnath Cave Shrine.

“It was raining heavily and announcements were being made to leave the place, in the chaos many got buried under the debris”.

Heena was fortunate to make it to the safe end while many others failed to run for life.

“As I was running for shelter I fell down and got minor injuries in my leg” she said.

Heena was accompanied by her father and brother, who instead of getting to the cave shrine are heading to SKIMS to get a glimpse of their loved one.

Survivors of the Amarnath cloudburst admitted at SKIMS for minor injuries say their wounds may not take much time to heal but the memories of the tragedy will haunt them for all times to come.
