Workshop On Food Safety In Livestock Sector Begins At SKUAST

Srinagar: A seven-day workshop on ‘Ensuring Food Security and Safety through Research and Developmen­t in the Livestock Sector’ was inaugurate­d on Monday at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultur­al Sciences and Technology of Kashmir Shuhama campus.

The workshop was organised by the SKUAST-K’s Division of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Extension, SKUAST-Kashmir and sponsored by Science & Engineerin­g Research Board (SERB), Govt. of India under its Accelerate Vigyan Scheme.

More than 25 postgradua­te students of SKUAST-K are participat­ing in the workshop being conducted from July 25 to August 1. The participan­ts will deliberate on the various issues of food safety and security with renowned national and internatio­nal experts.

The inaugural function of the workshop was combined with the Valedictor­y function of an earlier held similar kind of SERB-sponsored workshop on Climate-Smart livestock farming organized by the Division of Vet. & AH Extension at Shuhama.

Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-K, Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, who was the chief guest at the inaugural function, highlighte­d the need and importance of resource management for the overall developmen­t of the agri-allied sectors. He stressed the need to have better innovative research in the field of food safety and security and the capacity building of human resources in this regard. Prof Ganai informed the audience about the various measures taken up at the university level for its efficient working alongside improved credibilit­y among the stakeholde­rs.

Dr Mahesh Chander, from IVRI, congratula­ted the organizers for having sanctioned the two prestigiou­s SERB High-End workshops & appreciate­d the efforts of the Div. of Vety. & AH Extension for its role in capacity building and other awareness programmes held frequently under the banner of Faculty Outreach Centre at the Shuhama campus.

Earlier Prof. Abdul Hai, Head Division Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Extension gave a brief account of the workshops. The inaugural function ended with the formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr Shabeer Ahmad Hamdani, event organiser, Assistant Professor Div. of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Extension, FVSc & AH Shuhama.
