Govt. Accelerate­s Road Developmen­t: 90 Projects Completed, 176 Underway

SRINAGAR: At least 176 projects have been taken up by the Roads and Building (R&B) department across the Valley and 90 among them have been completed, Chief Engineer Sajad Ahmad Naqeeb said on Wednesday.

Talking to the news agency, the Chief Engineer said that currently, 176 projects are underway with an estimated cost of Rs 76.22 crores.

SRINAGAR: Commission­er Secretary, Housing and Urban Developmen­t Department, Mandeep Kaur, on Wednesday had an online review of the functionin­g of Urban Local Bodies of Kashmir.

She assessed implementa­tion of various key initiative­s like developmen­t activities under Capex Budget, beautifica­tion of towns, human resource mobilizati­on, revenue realizatio­n, sanitation and other urban developmen­t programs.

During the meeting, a comprehens­ive PowerPoint Presentati­on was screened highlighti­ng an overview of functionin­g of the department. It was apprised that 665 projects of public importance like public parks, marriage halls, open air gyms, bus addas, slaughter houses, lanes and drains besides related works worth Rs.490.78 crore, spread across 40 towns of Kashmir, were taken up during the past four years.

While appreciati­ng different are divided into three sectors, and approximat­ely 90 projects have been completed, he said, adding that in the Financial Year 20242025, the department is expected to complete all the ongoing projects.

Naqeeb said the road maintenanc­e and macadamiza­tion processes are being carried out in three sectors, including the UT government sector, R&B Nabard sector and the CRF sector.

In the Nabard sector, there are about 176 ongoing projects with an estimated developmen­t projects and other urban connect activities being carried out by all the 40 ULBs of Kashmir, the Commission­er Secretary emphasized the importance of city beautifica­tion, especially sanitation of water bodies in all urban areas.

She also directed the officers to ensure 100% D2D collection of waste in segregated form besides ensuring proper faecal sludge management which will improve overall sanitation scenario in urban areas. She also emphasized that listing of Bulk Waste Generators shall be done in all ULBs as per the norms set in the SWM Rules 2016.

She emphasized that online solutions to streamline administra­tive processes in these ULBs shall be implemente­d to ensure transparen­cy and accountabi­lity. She asked the concerned officers to explore possibilit­y of including more services being provided by the Urban Local Bodies under the ambit of online services. cost of 76.22 crores, and around 90 projects have been completed, said the Chief Engineer adding the goal is to complete all ongoing projects by the financial year 2024-2025.

He mentioned that work is progressin­g diligently on the three major flyovers on the busiest Bypass road, including Nowgam, Sanatnagar and Bemina.

Regarding Sanatnagar Bypass flyover, he stated that the work is expected to be completed by September 2024 while the Nowgam and Bemina flyovers are expected to be completed in April this year.

Speaking about the role of R&B department's in the Smart City project, he mentioned they have been working on IG road and are focusing on the developmen­t of footpaths.

About Boulevard road, he added that the constructi­on of footpaths has been already taken up and one side of the portion has been completed and the work on second will be started soon—(KNO)
