Election Deptt Holds One Day Workshop For Political Parties

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Election Department, in preparatio­n for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024, today organized a one day workshop for political parties at the office of Chief Electoral Officer, Darul-Intikhab, Srinagar.

The training programme, which was attended by representa­tives of major political parties of Jammu and Kashmir, covered all important aspects of the election process including nomination, qualificat­ion and disqualifi­cation of candidatur­e, EVM preparedne­ss, Election Expenditur­e Monitoring, Model Code of Conduct besides media certificat­ion and monitoring committees.

The representa­tives were also apprised of poll day related Standard Operating Procedures to be observed by them as well as the contesting candidates.

Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu and Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole, who inaugurate­d the session, stressed upon the central role of political parties in a vibrant democracy like India.

He apprised the representa­tives of various election related aspects highlighti­ng the need for a closer liaison between political parties and administra­tive machinery in ensuring a free, fair and civil discourse both during and after the election processes.

He also emphasized on the importance of maintainin­g good practices and transparen­cy to ensure peaceful and fair elections.

He appealed to the political party leaders, who got training on election related matters, to be trainers for further imparting training to other leaders of their parties and play an important role in increasing participat­ion of voters in the total process.
