With the objective of exploring strategies for equipping students with Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills needed to thrive in the current dynamic job market, the principals of Calcutta University (CU) affiliated colleges will attend a two day ‘Principal Conclave’ hosted by the business process management (BPM) subsidiary of Infosys Limited in Mysore on May 28-29. CU Registrar Debasis Das wrote to the principals of all colleges to submit nominations to the placement officer of the varsity, latest by May 3 for participation. Nominations will be considered on a first come first served basis.

“The industry does student interaction through the respective colleges or universities. Infosys BPM will share their thoughts at the two-day workshop and the participating principals will communicate the same to the university so that we can prepare a roadmap for preparing our students for success in a data driven and AI powered future,” Das said.

He added: “The conclave is designed to equip the senior academicians with the skills and knowledge to navigate the evolving educational landscape. The interactive session and industry insights shared in the workshop will contribute in enhancing leadership communication and foster a thriving academic environment.”

Das, through his written communication, made it clear that Infosys BPM has requested only confirmed nominations to avoid last minute drop out.

Infosys had come for campus interviews at CU and had conducted training with administrative officials who are computer savvy so that they have a fair knowledge of AI.

“If I am unable to go personally, I will surely send a representative from the college to attend the conclave. Our faculties have earlier attended two training programmes conducted in November 2023 and in February 2024 which have been fruitful,” said Madhumanjari Mandal, principal of Scottish Church College.

AI is being introduced in Scottish Church College from the 2nd semester which will start from the first week of May. The subject will be taught by teachers of the Computer Science department. Bethune College is also introducing AI from 2nd semester with classes slated to begin in the middle of May.
