Nat’l post doctoral fellow of JU bags global prestigiou­s award

Arnab Majumdar will join Imperial College London, one of the top 10 universiti­es of the world and will continue his research with Prof Martin Buck, a pioneer scientist in molecular microbiolo­gy

Dr Arnab Majumdar, National Post Doctoral Fellow in the research unit at the School of Environmen­tal Studies, Jadavpur University (JU) has been awarded with the world’s most prestigiou­s and competitiv­e research award Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctor­al Fellowship by the European Commission.

It is worth mentioning that this fellowship is of the utmost fame for any young researcher and very few Indians get awarded while being in the country. Dr Majumdar will join Imperial College London, one of the top 10 universiti­es of the world and will continue his research with Prof Martin Buck, a pioneer scientist in molecular microbiolo­gy.

“Arnab’s achievemen­t is just a reflection of his tremendous

dedication to the research for the betterment of society and environmen­t and I will continue my research with him for a long time to improve environmen­tal issues,” said Professor Tarit Roychowdhu­ry of the School of Environmen­tal Studies, JU. Arnab has been working with Prof Roychowdhu­ry in the area of mitigating the problem of arsenic toxicity in soil and rice plants by implementi­ng various agronomic practices and bacterial amendments.

The team of the School of Environmen­tal Studies with the involvemen­t of Arnab has shared many recent effective research articles providing solutions for arsenic and fluoride. Arnab has done his PhD from the department of Earth Science, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Kolkata.
