Addressing a rally in Howrah, Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Monday alleged that the BJP and CPI(M) have joined hands to “snatch jobs of eligible candidates” in the state.

Banerjee, while speaking at an election rally in Amta, assured that the TMC-led state government will stand beside the merited candidates who have lost their jobs and will fight the legal battle needed.

He alleged that the BJP and CPI(M) are conspiring to take away jobs at a time the state government is trying to provide job opportunities.

He alleged that both these Opposition parties in the state are running to courts to stop the recruitment process through petitions. This is creating a hurdle in the recruitment process. Banerjee was alluding

to the Calcutta High Court’s order cancelling appointments of 25,753 teachers and nonteaching staff made through the recruitment process of State Level Selection Test-2016 (SLST) in state-run schools, declaring the selection process as “null and void”. The West Bengal government has moved the Supreme Court challenging the order.

Following the April 22 court order, the TMC said that the people of Bengal will not forgive the BJP for taking away the jobs of nearly 26,000 teachers. Abhishek also trained his guns at the senior advocate and CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya who represented the petitioners in the High Court.

Abhishek also accused the

BJP of “hypocrisy” when it comes to the issue of women’s safety. He cited examples of incidents of atrocities against women in BJP-ruled states. Banerjee also alleged that the PM Modi-led Centre is trying to destroy the Indian Constitution and suppress dissenting voices. He said that the BJP, however, cannot intimidate TMC which will thwart all the

attacks and continue to protect the state.

Banerjee highlighted that the state government spends Rs 25,000 crore every year for giving funds under the women’s social welfare scheme ‘Lakshmir Bhandar’ for the 2.12 crore women and accused the BJP of conspiring to stop that financial assistance project. He also said the Ghatal Masterplan will be commissioned “by the end of this year” by the state.

Abhishek also held a roadshow from Dasnagar to Baltikuri in Howrah district.
