KMC prepares report for next court hearing on illegal constructions
Ahead of the next hearing at the Calcutta High Court, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is compiling its report on what measures have been taken so far to curb illegal constructions in the city.
Following the Garden Reach building collapse incident which killed 13 persons, the court had asked the civic body to take measures to stop illegal constructions. It had also asked KMC to inform what protocols are in place so far. The next hearing is scheduled on May 9 when the civic body is expected to submit its report.
Sources said the report will comprise what steps were taken following the collapse of the under construction building in Garden Reach. Additionally, the number of illegal constructions in the city identified by the KMC. The report, prepared by the Building department, will be sent to Mayor Firhad Hakim and the municipal commissioner.
The KMC has set up a build
ing work diary report where citizens can input information relating to the constructions they want to inquire about. One has to type in the details including premises number, assessee number and KMC street name apart from ward and borough details.
However, many have alleged that despite entering proper details the work diary app showed ‘no record found’.
A resident of Ward 89 alleged that despite entering details of an unauthorised construction located at Kali Prasanna Roy Lane, the work diary showed no results. The citizen alleged that the building is being constructed for a long time and yet no action has been taken.
Recently, a demolition team of the KMC had faced resistance from locals in Kasba area when it went to bring down an
allegedly unauthorised building. Presence of policemen from the local police station made no apparent difference. The civic body wrote to the police for cooperation.
