Reiterating her government’s stand on CAA, NRC or UCC, Banerjee once again clarified that the CAA, NRC and UCC will never be implemented in Bengal. “We will not allow CAA, NRC, and UCC in Bengal as we believe in unity in diversity. We will stand together.”

Hitting out at the Modi government on its decision not to clear the state’s dues, she said:

“BJP has stopped Central funds under Awas Yojana and MGNREGA citing corruption. Modi Babu, before seeking votes in Bengal or branding TMC as thieves, look into the mirror. Publish a white paper and share what is the situation in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Over 350 central teams were sent to Bengal but they couldn’t find anything.”

Banerjee also threw a set of questions to the Prime Minister Modi saying: “Why hasn’t Modi Babu said anything about skyrocketing inflation? He can criticise me but he must answer why he hasn’t given Rs 15 lakh to the bank accounts or provided 2 crore jobs to the unemployed. He must answer why farmers are not getting the minimum support price (MSP) or why the prices of medicines have increased?”

Referring to some of the recent incidents where Trinamool Congress activists were killed, Banerjee said: “Yesterday, I received the distressing news that our Zilla Parishad member was killed. The day before yesterday, our worker was killed in Baguiati. Where are the NIA, CBI, and Income Tax then?”

Banerjee also hit out at the Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari without taking his name.

“The traitors are talking about

explosives and celebrating the cancellation of jobs of over 26,000 people. How would he feel if someone from his family lost a job? He doesn’t value this because he has joined Bhajpa Washing Machine to protect his own assets. Ask them how many suffered during the Vyapam scam in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh. Those who went to probe the case were murdered. What is the result of that scam?” she said.

OMR issue was found in 808, rank jumping in 185 and alleged irregularities in 993 which makes the percentage of alleged irregularities 8.50 per cent. For the XI-XII level, total recommendation was 5596, out of which 771 OMR issues, 39 rank jumping and 810 alleged irregularities were detected making it 14.47 per cent alleged irregularities against the total.

Similarly, for Group C, the total recommendation was 2037, out of which 783 were OMR issues and 783 alleged irregularities, bringing the percentage to 38.43 per cent. For Group D, the total recommendation was 3880, OMR issue was four 1741 bringing the alleged irregularity percentage to 44.87 per cent.

In the judgement, it was mentioned that during the hearing the SSC did not discount the fact that possibilities of further illegalities exist.

The special bench of Justice Debangsu Basak and Justice Md. Shabbar Rashidi had held: “What has been produced by the selection process is not a cereal consisting of grains and chaff capable of segregation but a product unfit for human consumption. Fraud perpetrated and perpetuated is deep and pervasive. Any attempt to shift the proverbial grain from the chaff would be an unprofitable exercise, prolonging the agony and would put premium on dishonesty.”

According to the data recorded in the judgement appointments were given to 25,753 candidates in these four groups. The Bench held

that the entire selection process is shrouded in mystery that it is difficult to fathom the quantum of illegalities performed.

Calling the cancellation of appointments arbitrary, the state alleged that the judgement was given based on oral submissions and in absence of any affidavit. The plea stated that the termination of teaching and non-teaching staff without giving sufficient time to the state has rendered the education system stand-still.

The matter with regards to the supernumerary posts will be further heard next week on Monday. With regards to the direction for the CBI probe, the senior advocate Rakesh Dwivedi argued that the matter involving the Cabinet and ministers could be sent to jail during the election period.

the names of his father and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, among other family members, being drawn into the controversy.

“SIT has been formed, if the (crime) is proved in the investigation, whoever is involved has to undergo punishment. Whoever has committed the wrong has to bow down as per the law of the land...We will take merciless action from the party too, there is no question of defending him,” Kumaraswamy said.

“I want to ask Congress leaders, why bring family into it? Discuss about the individual. An individual and his deeds are in question here, not the family... why bring the family’s name, Deve Gowda’s name or Kumaraswamy’s name? I have myself said whoever has committed the mistake has to undergo punishment,” he added.

Kumaraswamy denied prior knowledge of the incidents and called for a fair investigation by the SIT. Stating that such incidents cause embarrassment to the society as a whole, Kumaraswamy said there is no question of defending anyone.

He assured that the party respects women and that the incident will not affect election results in Hassan, where Prajwal is the NDA candidate.

The Congress held protests in Karnataka demanding the immediate arrest of Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna. Congress workers — with women members joining in large numbers — took to the streets in Hubballi, Hassan and Bengaluru.

In Bengaluru, the protest was led by All India Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba outside the office of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee.

“More than 3,000 videos with hundreds of women being sexually harassed, violated and even brutalised by MP Prajwal Revanna over the past few years have shaken the conscience of Kannadigas and Indians alike,” she said.
