JNUSU students, Najeeb’s family members protest outside PHQ

NEW DELHI: Stepping up pressure on Delhi Police to expedite the search operations to trace Najeeb Ahmed, the JNU student who has been missing from the campus since October 15, the Left-wing student groups led by Jawaharlal Nehru Students Union (JNUSU) staged a protest outside Police Headquarters at ITO.

The student groups also chanted slogans against the rival group ABVP and demanded that the ABVP students who physically assaulted Najeeb on October 14 to be tried.

Accompanying the students were also family members of Najeeb which included his mother Fatima Nafees, brother Mujeeb and his cousins who had come to give their support to the protesting students.

The students chanted slogans against the police and demanded that they must quickly trace Najeeb who has been untraceable for the last 14 days.

Irshad, a relative of Najeeb said: “It is not easy for us as family members to come each time and protest. Najeeb’s brother cannot concentrate on his UPSC preparations and his father is a heart patient, you can understand the state of the family.”

The JNUSU President Mohit Pandey who is spearheading the protest met Joint Commissioner, South-eastern Range R P Upadhyay and stated that the senior official assured that the search operations for Najeeb are on full swing.

The JNUSU are demanding that the vast forest areas of the JNU must be searched for tracing Najeeb Ahmed.

On Friday Vice-chancellor of JNU M Jagadesh Kumar tweeted that the Delhi Police and the security guards of JNU have begun combing operation at the JNU forest area.
