Three online scamsters arrested for cheating

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police have arrested three conmen who were involved in online cheating cases and used to obtain credit card details from victims to withdraw their money, police said on Wednesday.

The accused have been identified as Joginder Singh, Prakash and Gaurav Dubey. The police team have recovered a cash of Rs 4,35,000, 17 mobile phones, 210 SIM cards of various service providers, one laptop and some incriminat­ing articles.

According to police, after their arrest, it was learnt that as per their modus operandi they used to call the customers on the basis of data of customers available with them to obtain details of their credit cards.

During this process, they used to convince the customer to provide them the OTP (One Time Passwords).

“After obtaining the OTP, they would fraudulent­ly transfer the money to mpesa mobile wallet or any other online mobile wallets by using the credit card details of the customers.

After a few days, they used to transfer the money to different bank accounts that were later withdrawn though debit cards,” police said quoting the interrogat­ion.

Further investigat­ion is on to trace the girls who used to make calls to the victims. Also, probe is on to ascertain other involvemen­ts of accused persons, police said.
