Ajnara, Supertech slapped Rs 50,000 fine each

NOIDA: With the pollution levels going off the graph, the Noida administration is trying hard to take all possible control measures. After putting orders to shut the schools, the authority issued notices to 18 realtors who were found violating National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders on air pollution around their construction sites. The authority also levied a fine of Rs 50,000 on Ajnara group and Supertech as they were found responsible for causing air pollution in Noida’s Sector 74 area.

The Noida Authority’s decision to issue notices comes after the alarming and highly toxic air conditions which forced the adminis- tration to put a check on the construction activities. The Authority formed a team that found 18 realtors, whose projects are located in different sectors of Noida, flouting construction guidelines.

For more than a week, the NCR skies have been filled with thick brown haze that has made the eyes watery and throats sore. The sickening air pollution forced the District Authority to take major control decisions. The construction sites will have to stop their activities for the next 7 days while Noida schools will remain closed till Tuesday and there will be no classes from nursery to Class 2 and for others, schools have been asked to operate from 9 am to 1 pm. The students have been advised to stay indoors during school hours. “The construction sites will remain closed for the next 7 days. We have also asked the manufacturing industries to install air pollution control system. The electricity supply of the region will remain for 24 hours of the day to put a check on diesel consumed in generators,” said N P Singh, District Magistrate, Noida.

The Authority also sprinkled water using tankers in Sector 71, Sector 51 and Sector 78-linked roads to settle the dust. “The Authority will also put a check on burning of waste and will sprinkle water on roads to settle the dust. We will also use mechanical sweeping machines to clear the roads,” Singh added.
