NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party’s national Convener Arvind Kejriwal will hold a public meeting of wholesale traders and farmers at the Azadpur mandi regarding problems caused due to demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency denominations. West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinmool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee will also address the meeting.

“Public meeting against demonetisation at 11 am at Azadpur Mandi . People who are facing problems due to demonetisation reach there,” said Kejriwal in a tweet on Wednesday. “I will hold a public meeting at Azadpur mandi, Mamata Banerjee will also address the gathering,” he added.

“This demonetisation move is the biggest scam of independent India. (Modi) compelled the starving public to stand in queues after taking money from the rich. Modiji cheated the country,” Kejriwal also tweeted.

Delhi Labour Minister Gopal Rai said a meeting focusing on the scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes will be held with traders, farmers and labourers.

The move comes a day after Kejriwal urged President Pranab Mukherjee to direct the Centre to withdraw demonetisation move while demanding a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the scrapping of high currency notes. The Delhi government had also summoned special session of the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday on the same issue and passed a resolution demanding its immediate roll back and investigation into the ‘fraud’.

Azadpur Mandi is Asia’s biggest wholesale market of fruits, vegetables and grains. The public meeting is scheduled to start at around 11 am and Mamata Banerjee is expected to join at around 1 pm.

The move of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes has unified the Opposition parties against the incumbent saffron government.

It is West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has strongly condemned and raised her voice against the move and has brought all Opposition parties together into one stream.

From the Congress and Left to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) or the NDA constituent Shiv Sena, all have risen in unison against demonetisation.

As per the TMC, the party supremo has spoken to leaders of all the majority parties and even held a 40-minute long conversation with Kejriwal on Tuesday evening at South Avenue.
