MCDS announce to waive off penalty, interest on property taxes

NEW DELHI: With an eye on the Municipal elections scheduled next year, the three Bjp-ruled Municipal Corporatio­ns of Delhi (MCDS) have announced 100 per cent waiver on penalty and interest amount on payment of property tax arrears till February next year, on payment of property tax in the month of March. Additional­ly, the Corporatio­ns also announced 50 per cent waiver on interest amount and 100 per cent waiver on penalty. The announceme­nt to this effect was made by the three civic bodies on Thursday after approval of the Standing Committees.

As per the announceme­nt, this amnesty scheme, a substantia­l relief, has been provided to those property tax assesses who have not yet cleared their dues. Now, they will be able to update their accounts on payment of full arrear amount and avail benefit of waiver in penalty and interest amount.

“The scheme offers relief to all types of property holders who have some outstandin­g amount towards property tax. The scheme will be affected from November 18 and will remain in force till February 28 which should be paid by March 31. On making full payment of the arrears in respect of property tax, the assesses will be given 100 per cent waiver on penalty as well as interest,” said Shyam Sharma, Mayor of the SDMC. North MCD Mayor Sanjeev Nayyar said: “On payment after February 28, the assesses will get waiver off 100 per cent on account of penalty whereas 50 per cent on account of due interest. The waiver on penalty and interest will be given on arrear amounts accumulate­d upto November 18.”
