Doctor in a spot while trying to dispose of old currency notes for friend

NEW DELHI: A Delhi-based paediatric­ian fell in police net while allegedly trying to dispose of his friend’s money worth Rs 69,86000 and that too in Rs 100 rupees denominati­on.

When people are trying to dispose of or convert their old currency notes for new notes, an interestin­g case came to light in Delhi. On November 16, a call was received by the Central Delhi’s Paharganj police station that a Maruti Swift car carrying cash of around Rs 5 crore is moving towards Karol Bagh from Chuna Mandi.

The police team rushed into action and soon spotted the car in Karol Bagh. The police chased the car for 5 km before stopping it. On searching the car, the police were surprised to find three plastic bags filled with cash worth Rs 69 lakh 86 thousand. Even a bigger surprise waited when the team found the whole cash was in the denominati­on of Rs 100.

On interrogat­ion, the child specialist Dr Dilip Nanal, who runs his clinic at Rajouri Garden, revealed that he got the money from one of his friend S P Sharma who runs a washing powder business at Paharganj.

“The cash and the car has been seized. Raid have been conducted at S P Sharma’s office but it was found locked and Sharma is absconding. We are trying to get the whereabout­s of Sharma,” said DCP Central Mandeep Singh Randhawa.

Meanwhile, in another incident, Delhi Police Crime Branch conducted a raid at Sealdah-delhi Rajdhani on Thursday and recovered Rs 5 lakh from the possession of one Mahadev Bhandari, a resident of West Bengal. The demonetise­d notes have been seized and the Income Tax department has been informed.

Also, teams of Crime branch along with Directorat­e of Informatio­n IT department are also raiding several places in Delhi.
