Banerjee to lead a protest rally against demonetisation today
NEW DELHI: Ending all uncertainties, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav welcomed West Bengal Chief Minister and All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee at the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow on Monday evening. On Tuesday, Banerjee will lead a protest rally against demonetisation in Lucknow.
The West Bengal CM has been leading the efforts to unify the opposition parties against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's demonetization move and SP too has raised its voice with the TMC supremo. Senior SP parliamentarians Jaya Bachchan, Kiranmoy Nanda and Dharmendra Yadav had taken part in Mamata's public rally at Jantar Mantar in Delhi last week. Sources said, there was a 10-minute long talk between West Bengal CM and Uttar Pradesh CM. The state gov- ernment has given permission for the 4-hour proposed protest rally to be addressed by Banerjee.
According to TMC officials, the rally will start at 12 in the noon. However, Banerjee will address the gathering at 2.30 pm. Senior leaders from TMC, SP and BSP will participate in the rally, a party official said.
TMC vice-president Mukul Roy confirmed that invitations have been sent to heads of all opposition parties including Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party for Tuesday's protest. After the November 29 protest in Lucknow, TMC supremo will hold a protest rally in Patna in Bihar.
Roy also said that the party is planning to take the protest to Odisha, North-east, Punjab and other states until the Centre rolls back its decision on demonetization.
