Civic bodies update official dengue toll to six

NEW DELHI: The civic authoritie­s in Delhi have updated the official dengue toll in the city to six, even as there was a slight rise in the number of cases of chikunguny­a over the last week.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporatio­n has updated the death tally for dengue from four to six, according to a report release by the SDMC on Monday.

“Many cases come late from hospital, so the confirmati­on has come now,” a senior official said.

As per the report, 135 fresh dengue cases were reported in the national capital last week. 4,200 cases were recorded till November 26.

Number of chikunguny­a cases continued to fall in the national capital, with the total number of people affected by the vector-borne disease reaching to 11,915 this season.

197 fresh cases of chikunguny­a were recorded in the past week, taking the total number of people afflicted by the vectorborn­e disease to over 11,915 this year. 135 cases were reported in the week before that.

“As many as 11,915 suspected cases have been recorded this season till November 26 out of which 9,525 have been confirmed,” according to the report.

At least 11,718 suspected chikunguny­a cases were reported in the city till November 19.

SDMC tabulates the data for vector-borne disease cases in the national capital on behalf of all the civic bodies.

Of the total chikunguny­a cases, 758 have been reported in areas falling under the North Delhi Municipal Corporatio­n (NDMC), the highest among the three corporatio­ns.

661 confirmed chikunguny­a cases have been reported in areas under SDMC and 380 under EDMC this season.

3,770 cases have been reported from areas falling outside the jurisdicti­on of the three municipal corporatio­ns. And, 3,956 cases have been recorded from other states. At least 15 fatalities have been reported at various hospitals in the city due to complicati­ons triggered by chikunguny­a, though the civic bodies have kept the death tally at zero.
