NEW DELHI: The Jawaharlal Nehru University Administration is considering taking a disciplinary action against the students who protest at the administration block.

In a stern directive issued by the JNU administration, the JNU officials highlighted of the non-cooperative attitude of the Jawaharlal Nehru Students Union (JNUSU) in holding protests at the administration block.

The officials mentioned that even as alternative spaces have been earmarked for the students to hold democratic and lawful protests, the students have not paid heed to the requests of the administration in protesting in those places and have insisted in only protesting at the administration block.

The JNU officials have stated that the persistent defiance of students in indulging in dharnas, sit-ins, loud protests and offensive sloganeering in and around the administration building were against the University rules.

The officials further stated that frequent use of public address systems, beating of drums affected the health of elderly people and children residing nearby.

The officials slammed the JNUSU for confining the vicechancellor M Jagadesh Kumar and officials within the administration building for 22 hours.

Reacting strongly to the directive, JNUSU president Mohit Pandey highlighted that the JNU administration and the V-C was deliberately trying to target the JNUSU students and letting off the ABVP students.

Pandey mentioned that the Vice Chancellor has not provided justice to Najeeb and his family

Pandey said: “Even as the proctorial committee formed to look into the matter of assault of Najeeb Ahmed had found six ABVP students namely, Vikrant, Vijender, Aishwarya, Ankit, Abhijeet and Santosh guilty of assaulting Najeeb, no subsequent action has been initiated against them.”
