KEJRIWAL LIKENS JUNG TO HITLER OVER DCW APPOINTMENT

- OUR CORRESPONDENT

NEW DELHI: Annoyed over the appointment of Dilraj Kaur as the member secretary of DCW, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday hit out at Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, likening him to “Hitler”.

The Delhi CM also said that Najeeb Jung has ‘sold’ his soul to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “L-G is acting like Hitler, following in footsteps of his masters Mr Modi n Amit Shah,” Kejriwal said in a tweet.

In another tweet, the Delhi CM said “Najeeb Jung ne Upp Rashtrapati banne ke liye apni aatma ko Modi ko bech diya. Par Modi kabhi Muslim ko Upp Rashtrapati nahi banainge, Jung jo marji kar le” (to become Vice-president, Najeeb Jung has sold his soul to Modi, but Modi will never make a Muslim the Vice-president no matter what Jung does).

It may be mentioned that Jung had on Tuesday appointed IAS officer Dilraj Kaur as Member Secretary of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW). Kaur, who is Secretary (Social Welfare), has been given additional charge of Member Secretary in the women’s panel.

The move emerged as yet another tussle between Kejriwal and Jung as it comes eight days after the Chief Minister had sought removal of incumbent Alka Dewan terming her appointment “unconstitutional”.

Last month, Kejriwal had written to Jung saying: “It is shocking that the Member Secretary was recently appointed to DCW by you without her name being nominated by the elected government.

“The government had already nominated a certain name and without considering it, Alka Dewan was nominated to the post. The appointment is unconstitutional and against the order of Delhi High Court and DCW Act.”

He had also said the parttime appointment of Dewan as Member Secretary to the Commission is, therefore, null and void.

“It is recommended that she may be immediately withdrawn and in future all appointments to the Commission are made only after due nomination of the same by elected government,” he had said.

DCW chief Swati Maliwal had alleged that the appointment of Diwan led to the stalling of the functioning of the Commission and was subverting its autonomy.
