NEW DELHI: In order to reduce garbage menace and to ensure cleanliness in an efficient manner, North Delhi Municipal Corporation on Monday announced to implement the concept of “night sweeping”. An additional infrastructure and work force will be deployed to execute the work properly.

The Corporation said that earlier, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) had asked to carry out sanitation works properly hence, it was decided to ensure sanitation works at least twice a day. The Corporation, initially, has identified as many as 15 commercial stretches including Jama Masjid area, Gaf- far Market, Chandani Chowk area, Ajmal Khan Road, Kamla Nagar, Model Town-ii, Main Bazar in Paharganj, Sadar Bazar, main road in Narela, etc.

“We have decided to deploy at-least six sanitation staff at every stretch during night hours so they can clean the area properly. The staff will be additional to the existing lot which will be on duty on the day hours. The Zonal DC has been asked to monitor the situation and report regularly,” said Corporation Commissioner P K Gupta. Besides this, the Commissioner also informed to install CCTV cameras to check illegal dumping of construction and demolition waste (C&D waste) and to initiate appropriate action against those involved in dumping such materials. “It was observed that malba (C&D waste) are lying on many roadsides, vacant lands, etc following which process of installing CCTV cameras has been initiated.
