EDMC launches online portal for health trade licences

- ANUP VERMA

NEW DELHI: The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), under the banner, “Ease of Doing Business”, launched an online portal to issue health trade licenses from Thursday.

The system would require minimum documents and the license will be issued within a short span of time on the same day. “In an aim to digitise the services, the civic body has decided to facilitate health trade license seekers by ensuring online facility. The move will also help in abolishing the ‘Inspector Raj’ and to ensure transparency in the system,” said a senior EDMC official.

The official said that the previous system required an applicant to submit 7-8 documents and the duration of issuing the license was at least 60 days and prior to the simplification process, 15 to 20 documents were required with no time limit on part of the authority to issue the license.

She said that now the entire process has been simplified and made online which is both time and cost saving for the authority and the applicants. “Instead of having to stand in long queues and dealing with touts, one can now upload their documents on the EDMC website, pay the application fee online through internet banking or debit/credit card. The documents needed for the application has been reduced to five from eight. Apart from the documents, the application will require a self-declaration that all details given are true. An estimated 100 types of health trade licenses would be issued under the process,” the official said.

Varyam Kaur, Leader of Opposition, said that this function can be called successful if the process of issuing license is simplified and eased in the real sense. She added that the success of this system can be measured in the coming time though the step taken by EDMC needs appreciation.

The move will also help in abolishing the ‘Inspector Raj’
