Victim doesn’t belong here, say police

NEW DELHI: A 13-yearold girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by two youth at a transit camp in Anand Parbat area in Central Delhi. The incident allegedly took place inside a public toilet at the transit camp where several families had shifted as a part of the relocation drive of Kathputli Colony residents.

However, the police are yet to identify whether the victim’s family was a part of Kathputli Colony and have maintained that they were from a colony from the surrounding area.

According to police, the incident took place on December 31, when the minor was on her way to buy groceries. After her chores, she decided to enter the public toilet to relieve herself.

The two accused who were near the public toilet noticed the girl enter and made their way inside and allegedly sexually assaulted her.

“The juveniles had entered the bathroom thinking that nobody was around the area. They then sexually assaulted her and then threatened her of dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident,” said a senior police official.

The girl never informed anyone about the incident when she returned. She later complained about severe stomach aches after which she was taken to the hospital and a medical examination was conducted and the sexual assault was confirmed.

The girl has identified the accused and a case under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of IPC and provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered.

The accused are known to the victim since they all lived in Kathputli Colony area before they were relocated to the transit camp as part of the Kathputli Colony relocation drive.

“One of the victim is a juvenile, we are verifying the other accused’s age. He has claimed that he is a minor but we believe that he is 21. Further investigation is underway,” the official added.
