Luck runs out for kidnapper who was a master of disguise

NEW DELHI: A man who would frequently change his appearance and would moonlight as a eunuch has been arrested after he kidnapped a two-and-a-half-year-old girl. The police have managed to rescue the girl after the eunuchs in the area managed to identify the imposter.

The girl, a resident of Paharganj in Central Delhi, was found missing on January 2. After a brief search by her parents, who are street vendors, they reported the matter to the police.

Her mother, Rukhsana, had reported that her daughter was last seen with a person identified as Ichcha, alias Ajay. She told the police that the accused had been visiting her family for the past two years and would regularly interact with her daughter.

On the day of the incident, she alleged that the accused had lured away her daughter on the pretext of offering her some food, after which she went missing. A case of kid- napping was registered at Paharganj police station, after which a team was deputed to search the accused.

However, the search proved to be futile as the accused kept changing his identity. “It was difficult for us to identify him. We had used our local sources to identify him. But he would keep evading the police by changing his appearance,” said a senior police official.

Eventually, the police received a lead from some eunuchs in the area. They managed to identify him from his photographs. “We found that he used to pose as a eunuch and would blend into their crowd. We also found that he was residing in a rented accommodation in Trilokpuri. We found the girl in the house and managed to reunite her with her parents,” the official added.

So far the motive of the crime has not yet been established. The girl was first taken to the accused’s aunt’s house and then shifted to Trilokpuri. Further investigation is underway.
