IRATE HOME BUYERS IN PROTEST MARCH

They threatened to boycott the Uttar Pradesh polls if their problems aren’t solved

GREATER NOIDA: Greater Noida West, formerly known as Noida Extension, witnessed a massive protest on Sunday morning against builders’ irregularity and delay in giving possession.

Hundreds of flat buyers, who are mainly from the lower-middle strata, took out a march and protested against the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI).

The protest was led by Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA), demanding immediate relief to buyers who have been left in the lurch owing to builders’ irregularities. The buyers of various real estate projects, as part of one banner, also announced to take the matter with top authorities and expose the realtors.

The association shouted “No home No vote” slogans and emphasised that they will not cast their vote in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections if their problem aren’t resolved soon.

The most pressing issue, according to NEFOWA, is that builders have already extended the possession date of their projects by an estimated six to seven years and demand for any additional payments at the time of possession.

“It has been long since we have been protesting against the delayed occupancy of apartments. Between realtors and the authorities, no one seems to be concerned about us. Apart from a few, all the builders in Greater Noida west have brought the construction work to a halt. Buyers have been facing hardship for the last six to seven years. As the delivery date of flats gets closer, some builders demands an additional three to four lakh rupees which was nowhere mentioned at the time of booking” said Indrish Gupta, founder of NEFOWA.

“We have decided to boycott the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and will not cast our vote if our problems won’t get resolved. We will continue with our protests and soon will lead a more massive protest outside the CREDAI head office in Delhi. We will also meet the officials of different political parties and will ask them to do the needful” added Gupta.

Over 400 home buyers gathered and protested against Amrapali, Supertech, Nirala, Paramount, Vedantam, Earth and others major realtors. Irate protesters said they will intensify their agitation across all platforms against builders if their issues are not resolved soon.

Construction in over 100 projects in Greater Noida West and surrounding areas have been put on halt, making it uncertain when the projects would be completed and handed over to buyers.

Reportedly, more than 95 per cent buyers have paid over 90 per cent of the amount of their apartments, but neither possession nor any announcement of fixed possession date has been made by the builders yet.
