Gurugram Traffic Police to observe 28th Road Safety Week today
Officials have planned various activities to spread awareness and information on road safety
GURUGRAM: As part of its annual road safety campaign in the city, Gurugram Traffic Police will observe Road Safety week from January 9 to January 15. Monday will mark the 28th edition of Road Safety Week.
As part of the week-long campaign, police officials have planned various activities to spread awareness and information on road safety, including display of banners, screening of road-safety related clips, doling out road safety messages on various media platforms and public announcements through traffic police vehicles.
Police officials would also hold meetings with various government departments, including Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon, Haryana Urban Development Authority and National Highways Authority of India to discuss issues of road safety.
Keeping in mind that most accidents occur due to poor eyesight, camps will be held to conduct free medical check-ups, eyesight testing and distribution of free spectacles to drivers.
Refresher courses on road safety will also be offered to drivers of state transport vehicles and drivers in the unorganised sector, such as auto unions and taxi drivers.
Gurugram police will also keep strict vigil on major traffic violations such over-speeding, unauthorised parking and drunken driving.
Moreover, Gurugram traffic police will also launch the Joy of Giving campaign, under which senior police officials will distribute flowers and other goodies to commuters who adhere to traffic rules across the major traffic junctions.
In 2016, Gurugram Traffic Police had collected around Rs 11 crore by means of challans from over four lakh violators of traffic norms in the city.
