NEW DELHI: A Delhi Police constable was attacked by two youth, who were reportedly in an inebriated condition, in South Delhi’s Masjid Moth area, police said on Sunday.

The two youth attacked Constable Ashok Kumar with a knife, leaving him with a head injury. Kumar, however, is said to be out of danger and both the accused have been arrested.

The incident was reported on Sunday around 3 pm. At the time of the incident, the victim was on patrolling duty when he spotted two people sitting on a bench in a park, near Masjid Moth. “The two youth, identified as Dinesh and Yogesh, were sitting in the park and were in a drunken condition. Constable Ashok Kumar tried to inquire about the youth and approached them,” said a senior police official.

When the policeman started to question the youth, an argument ensued between them. One of the youth took out a knife from his pocket and proceeded to attack the constable who ducked for cover.

However, he was attacked on his head and sustained a cut injury. The accused then tried to flee the spot, but one of them was caught by the constable and a call was made to the police.

A police team reached the spot and managed to apprehend the other accused from the area. “The accused Dinesh has a previous criminal involvement. The constable is out of danger and has sustained a 3-inch cut injury on his head. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC,” the police official added.
