NEW DELHI: Police have arrested one of two masons, who – in a state of inebriation – murdered a man over a financial dispute of Rs 50 and 100.

The body of the deceased, Malkhan, was found in an abandoned house in a JJ colony, near Kanjhawala in Outer Delhi.

Police arrested the accused Shambu on January 6, after inputs were received that he would try to flee Delhi from the bus stand near Haryana Senior Secondary School in Kanjhawala. Acting on the tip-off, a trap was laid and the accused was arrested from the spot.

Shambu confessed to the crime during interrogation. On the day of the incident on January 1, complainant Devi Din had reported that his son Malkhan had left home in the noon to give some curry to their neighbour.

However, his son failed to turn up even after several hours. After a day-long search, Malkhan’s body was finally found with injury marks on his throat in an abandoned house.

Shambhu told the police that he and his colleague Mobin were drinking alcohol, when the victim came to his house. Mobin picked a fight with Malkhan over some petty dispute after which, the former attacked him with a sharp object on his neck. When Malkhan began bleeding profusely, the two accused fled the spot.

Police are now on the lookout for Mobin and efforts are on to track his whereabouts.
