STENCH WAR: CITY COMES TO A HALT
NEW DELHI: As garbage crisis deepens in the TransYamuna region of the national Capital triggering civic and health-related issues on the fifth day on Tuesday, the Delhi unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) came down heavily on the Bjp-ruled East Delhi Municipal Corporation. The AAP leaders claimed that 10 years of misrule in the BJPruled Corporation is the key reason for this menace.
“The ruling party, despite receiving more than double the amount of funds from the Delhi government in the last two fiscals, has failed to even pay the salaries of sanitation workers which proves that the leaders have pocketed the money themselves. It is shameful that the Corporations are unable to execute their obligatory duty of maintaining sanitation in the city but here no sign of responsibility is being reflected,” said Dilip Pandey, AAP Convener of Delhi unit.
Pandey further alleged that the ruling BJP has made the Corporations disfunctional and the leaders have become careless about sanitation and health services. They (leaders) are not only playing politics over salary payments of poor sanitation workers but also disobeying Delhi high court’s order in which they have been directed to pay salaries till seventh of the month. “The party leaders have been exploiting the Corporation staff by not releasing their salaries and the agitated staff must expose this kind of nature in public,” he said. The AAP said that the Delhi government, in its statement earlier, has stated that it had released Rs 609 crore in fiscal 2016-17 for municipal employees and Rs 702 crore in 2015-16. In contrast to this, earlier, when the AAP was not in power, the amount allotted was much less, it mentioned: Rs 441 crore in 2014-15, Rs 416 crore in 2013-14 and Rs 399 crore in 2012-13. “The government has increased its allocation and is ready to implement the 4th Delhi Finance Commission (DFC) report if the Centre reaches a consensus. The problem is that the BJPruled Corporation, in order to take political mileage, is making all attempts to defame the state government while remaining tight-lipped about the Centre’s duties,” added Pandey. The party leader also produced documents to highlight overall income and expenditure.
“People must know how much money is being received, income is being generated and expenditure in various overheads is happening. Instead of blaming the state government, they (BJP) should present facts,” said Pandey.
