Top Manipuri separatist leader arrested from East Delhi

NEW DELHI: Just before Manipur elections, Delhi Police Special Cell nabbed dreaded terrorist Khoiram Ranjit popularly known as Great Macha who is the chief of a terrorist outfit KCP (Kangleipak Communist Party) Poirei Meitei of Manipur. The cops say he is associated with Congress MLA of Andro constituency of Manipur Thounaojam Shyamkumar Singh.

Khoiram was arrested along with one of his woman associates, identified as Inug bamsanatombi Devi from Mayur Vihar in East Delhi on secret input. They are said to be involved in large number of cases of terror activities like lobbying of grenades, shoot-outs, killings, planting of bombs, running extortion networks by intimidating businessmen and politicians. One 9 mm pistol and two hand grenades have been recovered from them. On their instance, another terrorist, Bomcha, was also arrested from Manipur. Ranjit is said to be in touch with a very close associate of Andro constitu- ency MLA Thounaojam Shyam Kumar Singh. The Delhi Police say that they are investigating whether the MLA has any direct role to play in the extortion and terror related activities. “Our investigation has shown that the money collected by Ranjit through extortion was collected by a close aide of MLA Shyam Kumar. They had discussions over it. We are going to brief the Imphal police on the MLA’S role,” said Sanjeev Yadav, DCP Special Cell. Shyam Kumar contested elections from jail after his arrest in 2006. He was accused of being a member of Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup and working as a liaison between KYKL and UNLF.
