Jaypee institute’s student commits suicide

NOIDA: A 23-year-old student allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his hostel room in Noida’s Jaypee Institute of Informatio­n and Technology (JIIT) hostel on Wednesday. Abhinav Gupta who hails from Meerut was a final year B Tech student and was upset over not being offered any job in the campus placement.

Police found a handwritte­n suicide note in which the deceased wished to donate his eyes after death. He blamed no one for the unnatural step taken.

Zaheer Khan, Station House Officer, Sector 58 police station, said: “We rushed to the spot when we were informed on a phone call about the incident on Wednesday night. We took custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem. No case was registered as the family members didn’t lodge a complaint against anyone. His body will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem.”

“We got a suicide note from the spot in which the victim mentioned that he wants his eyes to be donated. The victim blamed nobody for his fate. The deceased hailed from Meerut. He was to appear for his B Tech final exam. His family members said he was depressed after not getting any campus placement. However, his last wish couldn’t be fulfilled as his family members were not aware of the procedure surroundin­g eye donation,” Khan said.

The family members said that he was a bright student and he was always concerned about his career.

“He told us that he was depressed over not getting any job in the campus placement. We don’t know how and why he took this step. We were totally unaware of his last wish and the procedures as how to donate the eyes,” said a family member not wishing to be named.

The institute officials said that the academics of Abhinav always remained descent. He was a bright student and use to secure good percentage in his semester exams.

The campus placements are still on and the final semester is yet to take place. His father told police that he was disturbed as many of his friends got placed and he couldn’t. He was under the pressure of not getting selected. We are sorry that somehow his last wish couldn’t get fulfilled, said his father.
