Gzb cops arrest four with Rs 3 crore

GHAZIABAD: In yet another cash seizure post demonetisa­tion, the Ghaziabad Police on Thursday caught four persons with Rs 3 crore cash in Rs 2,000 notes during police checking at UP gate, Indirapura­m.

The car was coming from Delhi and the money was brought to Ghaziabad. Police are suspecting that the money was to be used in the upcoming UP Assembly elections.

The Maruti Swift model car was intercepte­d at Indirapura­m when the driver tried to break through a police barricade. However, the police personnel on the spot chased the car and on checking found the cash in the boot.

Sources said that the money belonged to Axis Bank and was withdrawn from the Delhi branch. Police have asked for the documents of the money and are investigat­ing the matter.

The accused told police that they were carrying this money from Delhi and it was brought in Ghaziabad. They told that they do not know who was to receive the money.

The police informed the Income Tax department, and I-T officials are trying to confirm the source of the money and weather is belongs to any political party or not.

Police are interrogat­ing the accused four persons to find out that was the money bought from Delhi to be used in UP Assembly elections or not and also to find out if any political party or leader is involved into it or not.
