SOL students protest against lack of classes, study centres

NEW DELHI: A massive protest rally of Delhi University’s School of Open Learning (SOL) students was held in the north campus on Sunday. The protest was held against the lack of adequate number of classes and study centres, accompanied by no bus pass and library facilities to the students.

According to the students, SOL administration has been constantly neglecting their problems. Late admissions of the first year SOL students, whose admission lingered from August to November, has led to a mismanaged academic calender and infrastructure crunch.

To manage the huge infrastructure crunch, the SOL administration has taken various measures like not sending messages of Sunday classes and assigning classes even on festive days.

“We are not even provided All-route bus pass because of which we have to spend huge amounts of money to reach the study centres,” said a SOL student. “Even on reaching the study centre, it is nearly impossible to study as the classes are already full with 200 students,” he added.

SOL students have resolved to approach HRD ministry if their demands of immediate increase in the number of classes and study centres, provision of all-route bus pass and library facilities, timely announcement of results and formation of anti-sexual harassment committees at the study centres for women students are not fulfilled in the coming days.
