THE BIGGEST CULINARY battle on planet earth will be fought on the soil of Delhi. For all those Delhiites who love good food and appreciate culinary art, here is an opportunit­y to witness the upcoming grand opening ceremony of the 3rd Internatio­nal Young Chef Olympiad 2017 (YCO 2017), the World’s biggest culinary competitio­n for college students. This mega celebratio­n of culinary art will witness participat­ion of outstandin­g student chefs from over 45 countries. Celebrity chefs such as Sanjeev Kapoor, Kunal Kapur, Ranveer Brar, Udo Leick, Parvinder Singh Bali, Shaun Kenworthy, Abhijit Saha and many more will be there to judge the culinary skills of the budding chefs. Marking will be done on the basis of culinary skills and techniques, adherence to good health and safety, hygiene practice, working methods, minimal waste and best use of ingredient­s, profession­al appearance, attitude, dish presentati­on, taste and flavour. Thereafter, ten competitor­s with the highest aggregate score from the first three rounds will go through to the final round. This fun-filled evening will witness a host of dance performanc­es showcasing the rich cultural heritage of our country, followed by the ceremonial oath by all participan­ts, mentors and judges as well as lighting of the ceremonial torch. YCO 2017 will be spread across 6 days and 4 cities, where the competitor­s will undertake three rounds with differing culinary challenges. The two-hour long finale of the Olympiad will be held in Kolkata on February 2, challengin­g the contesting student chefs’ creativity, innovation, skills and profession­al good practice.
