Criminal arrested for killing Class XII student of rival gang

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police have arrested a notorious criminal who along with his gang had killed a Class XII student belonging to a rival gang by beating him to death with iron rods. The accused identified as Deepak, had murdered Akash with the help of his nine associates in a bid to gain supremacy in Delhi Cantonment area.

The brutal murder came to the fore on July 17 last year when Deepak and his group had picked up a fight with Akash. They later beat him to death with iron rods and fled the spot. The boy’s murder had invited the ire of the residents who protested outside the local police station and demanded the arrest of the main accused. One accused, Gaurav, alias Dancer, along with three juveniles, were apprehende­d with the help of some traffic police personnel. But the main accused Deepak, Laxman, Vishal, Vijay and Bunty were on the run.

After several months on January 20, informatio­n was received that Deepak would come near Kargil Chowk to meet his associate. He was arrested upon identifica­tion.

“Upon interrogat­ion, the accused confessed to his involvemen­t in the crime. Subsequent­ly, he was arrested under appropriat­e sections of law,” said a senior police official.

The police have informed that Deepak belongs to a middle class family and his father is a government employee in the Central Ordinance Depot. After completing his schooling from a government school, he did a computer course and got an event management job in Karol Bagh.

During this period, he came in contact with gangster Gaurav who is reportedly involved in about 45 criminal cases.

“The gang leader Gaurav Jharera is lodged in jail for the murder of Kalu Jharera, which was committed during a gang-war in Delhi Cantt. When Deepak murdered the boy, he hid himself in different areas of Ranikhet, Uttarakhan­d and Katra, Jammu for about six months and had came back to Delhi since he was in need of money,” the official added.
